  • Often, we feel like we "have to" do things in order to be Christians. We have to pray, have to tithe, and have to be obedient. In this series, we will look at several places in the Bible where a different phrase is used: "Let us." When we understand that biblical teachings are opportunities instead of obligations, we're able to grow into the life God has planned for us so much more easily.

  • The resurrection of Jesus changes everything! For Jesus’ disciples, huddled together in a small room wondering what would happen next, the realization that Jesus was alive completely transformed everything they believed about who they were and how they were supposed to live. Shouldn’t it have the same effect on us? How are we supposed to live in light of the resurrection? How can we live like resurrection people in these challenging times? Let’s talk about living as resurrection people in the crazy, chaotic times because we know that the moment we are in does not pause the mission we are on.

  • Just when it seemed that the Kingdom of Darkness, the Kingdom of this world had won a great victory, Jesus rose from the grave once and for all defeating death and darkness. The Kingdom of Darkness was swallowed up by the Kingdom of Light. Today we celebrate the victory that Jesus won for all of us. Today we celebrate Easter!

  • There is something really painful about watching talent competitions in the form of reality TV shows. These people will be singing or performing, and its clear that so much of their time, energy hopes and dreams have been invested in this performance. Then the judges tell them they haven't been chosen. It hurts watching. It hurts even more when you're experiencing it. It hurts even more when you are experiencing rejection from someone you love, trust or look to for support. Experiences like that can really turn the lights out on us. They can make us feel lost in the dark. Today, we learn though, that we aren't alone in those experiences. Jesus dealt with deeply personal rejection as well. What does Scripture have to say to us about walking through the darkness of rejection.

  • There are some wounds that are so deep, we wonder whether or not healing is even possible. Sometimes, we experience hurt that cuts us to the core, that strikes at the foundations of our identity, that leaves us in the dark. There are moments for some of us where the hatred and evil of this world seem to be washing over us in waves. Jesus experienced this in the hours leading up to his death, and there are some truths for us as we examine how Jesus walked through the darkness of abuse.

  • The longer we live the more we realize just how broken the world can be and following Jesus certainly doesn’t exempt us from going through difficulty and trials. But even when things seem so upside down we have hope through the fact that Jesus has come and dealt with what we face on any given day. So, even in the face of unjust accusation we can take heart because we have an advocate, Jesus Christ who stands in our defense and who leads us through the dark.

  • What books, music, supplies would you want to have with you if you were on a desert island? I can tell you what I would want. I would want some other people. It's hard being alone, and it's really hard to face painful or difficult experiences alone. Unfortunately, that happens in our lives often. When things get really tough, that's often when we find ourselves most alone. We find Jesus dealing with this our Scripture passage this morning, and God has something to say to us about walking through the darkness of feeling deserted.

  • Have you ever had an experience where something or someone you were depending on did the opposite of what you expected or needed? We all have these moments in our lives that leave us feeling hurt, lost, betrayed...that leave us in the dark. In the passage we are exploring today, we see Jesus experiencing betrayal, his darkest moment compounded as a dear friend turns on him. What truths is God revealing to us in this story?

  • I think we can all agree that moving stinks. If you want to know who your real friends are, though, take a look at the people who show up to help you move. Isn't it weird that often, when life gets really painful or difficult, the people that we count on the most can let us down? When things get really hard, sometimes we feel really alone. In our passage this week, Jesus is facing all of these difficult things. Let's learn together from Jesus how we are to live when we are in the dark.

  • Anybody remember the Guiness Book of World Records? It's fun to to explore the pages of that book and see all of the weird, wonderful ways that people are uniquely talented or special in some way. Sometimes, though, we can struggle to imagine ourselves as special, as uniquely gifted. We can wonder if we are talented enough, special enough to achieve anything for God. Moses felt that way, and in our passage for today, God specifically addresses Moses's insecurity with His truth. That truth applies to us as well.

  • For a lot of us, if you scroll through our social media pages, you might think we've got it together. It's easy, in the world we live in, to project an image of ourselves that is more confident, more successful, more desirable than we feel like we really are. It's much harder for us to really let people get to know us because we're afraid they might find out how much of a mess we really are. In the passage we are looking at today, Moses was probably dealing with a lot of those same feelings. God had some things to say to Moses, though, and He has some things to say to us as well.

  • Sometimes in our lives we run up against forces so big, so strong that it feels like we have no way of escaping. We feel powerless in the face of our circumstances sometimes. We wonder if we will ever be strong enough. In the passage that we are focusing on today, Moses must have felt that way. BUT, God has something to say to Moses in the midst of his doubt and insecurity, and he has something to say to you and I as well.

  • Sometimes we know of something that needs to be done, or we have an idea that would really help a situation, but we hesitate to do or say anything. We think people might not listen to us. Why would they listen to us? We feel unqualified or unseen. Moses certainly felt that way in the passage that we will be looking at today, but God had a word for him. And God has a word for you and I today, especially those of us who feel like nobodies.

  • I don't know about you, but life around my house can sometimes feel out of control. We can get so busy, so overwhelmed with our daily stuff that it feels like the best we can do is just survive. Sometimes we face really painful circumstances in our lives that make us feel that way. We wonder, "Am I capable enough? Am I able to make it through this season? Is it even possible for me to thrive right now?" Anybody ever feel that way? Moses certainly felt that way and so did the people of Israel in the passage we will be exploring together. God has a clear answer for those of us dealing with those doubts and insecurities this morning.

  • We all have these questions rolling around in our hearts and in our heads. Am I smart enough? Am I strong enough? Am I talented enough? Am I patient enough? The fact is that life often puts some really big, difficult things in our path. We have a million reasons to feel insecure. The good news is that we are not alone. Scripture is full of people who had the same questions. This week we begin a series focusing on one of those people in scripture, Moses. God has a clear answer for those of us who are asking the question, “Am I enough?” We're going to talk about that today.
